Hmm - my memory of that story says
a) It takes place during one night, most people not knowing what's
going on until the weather goes crazy;
Nothing to do with thoughts of the future but in Inconstant Moon my impression was that many more than the two main characters 'knew' on some level but just did not want to face or voice it. This was never stated explicitly and may have been entirely in my imagination but that is what I thought Niven was implying.
