Only strange because you don't know the character. She's very stoic:
she tries to seem completely calm no matter how exciting or terrifying
the situation. But she's also highly intelligent, and when she seems
the calmest is when she's most feverishly calculating the odds.

Much like the character of whom she is something of an Expy: Horatio
Hornblower. I trust you've read C. S. Forrester?

I'm not complaining about the *action*, I'm complaining about the
*wording*. I have no problem with people who keep a poker face while
they think. I do have a problem with describing it so clumsily.

I've never read C. S. Forrester. Was he also a crappy writer?
