Since this has been a recent topic of discussion, and the
cheerleading section don't like to believe anything bad
about their favorite toys, I thought I'd toss this out:

Turns out, buried somewhere in the fine print, is a policy
that you can only download a book a set number of times,
determined by the publishers. It might be six. It might be
one. And there's no way for you, or Amazon, to know before
you reach the limit.
You are not buying books for the Kindle. You are renting
them.
(As an aside, apparently, if Zune Marketplace drops a
particular album, it will no longer be available on your
Zune, despite you having paid for it.)
You know, I'm not 100% cheerleader, I do recognize
problems, but...
One thing the writer says is that this wouldn't be a
problem if he
could back up his Kindle content the way he can his Itunes
library.
Why can't he?
I did. My entire Kindle content is backed up to my
computer,
something which Amazon not only authorizes but encourages.
I'll also throw in, for whatever value it is -- when you
download a file from Amazon to the Kindle, it downloads a mobi
file and an azw file. When you download a file from Amazon to
your computer, it downloads only an azw file, with a slightly
different name.
I don't know what the difference is, but just in case, I
download all files to the Kindle and then copy them into
storage from there, so I have both files, for whatever they're
worth.
your experience will be comprable to his.
Prove it.
Prove what? That backing up your rented books to restore on to the
same device is different from backing them up and restoring them to
a new device? What the *** are you jibbing about? Seriously, I
have no idea what you think I should prove.
I am referring to first hand accounts in the comments on the web
Seriously, you are predicting something will happen with a
device you
don't have and don't use, based on nothing but the different
experience of one user in an entirely different situation.
page you just got done insulting me for not reading, toots. First.
Hand. Accounts. As in, "I upgraded by a newer/better model, and
this happened to me."
Prove what?
