PS Have the talk.origins moderators simply blacklisted all attempts
to post from google groups? This will be my fifth attempt to
participate in this thread and I suspect it'll only show up because I
removed that group from the list.
A quick search shows that, at least as of February, they have. Their
suggested solution is "email the moderator". Unfortunately, Google, in
its infinite helpfulness, ellipses-out the last part of the username to
email that's provided later in that small FAQ, as a specific answer to "How
can I contact the moderator(s) with questions or problems?".
I'm fairly sure they don't have a blanket blacklist on r.a.sf.w crossposts
as such, or else this thread wouldn't survive, so the explanation for my
repeated immediate rejections each time I forget to remove t.o myself has
to be either "they don't like me specifically", "they don't like people
posting from vic.com specifically", or "they're rejecting EVERYONE the first
several times they try to post unless some sekrit method is followed in
contacting the moderators". If it's the last, there's no hint of what said
sekrit handshake might be.
The procedure outlined in the charter is also not being followed, the one
that says "articles crossposted to more than three other groups are
rejected immediately, others are allowed in regardless of content". However,
that's from 1997, so may well have undergone serious evolution since then.
If they have it would be nice to have it published somewhere. I do
not appreciate some of my best prose being bit-bucketed without notice.
Ditto here, especially since the thread is so long and having to reload and
undelete everything in it just to find out which post one replied to so one
can re-reply takes a great deal of effort. I'm strongly suspecting Gene of
taking advantage of some quirk in the moderation specifically so he doesn't
get torn to shreds by r.a.sf.w regulars nearly as much as usual.
I suspect that it might involve having a real email address in the
From/Reply-to headers. I got my minimim comment through by accident,
as I had not noticed that talk.origins was moderated and would have
deleted it if I had known. I got this email as part of the process.
