What I had in mind was fantasy with some basis in the
actual cultures of Central and South America [1], not Old World
cultures slathered on top of New World georgraphy or modern
cultures mirrored in the distant past.
I did think of an example: Marella Sands' Sky Knife.
Unfortunately I don't recall much about it. This isn't a put
down but a reflection that I read it nearly ten years ago.
I see that there was another book in that series (Serpent
and Storm) which I did not see and the author's website is somewhat
glum re: future books in the series.
