Re: "The Only Thing They Learn" -- does anyone else find it irritating?

(veritas <khogan...@xxxxxxxxx>):

T Guy,
Sorry, I was still laughing with you on the cup.  He said everyone
thought he had a cup of coffee he was spilling.  He also said he
thought it was about -200 degrees by the time he would get it to a
office.

(T Guy):

Well, ideally it would be in that narrow range between -280 and -250
where it's liquid, then it goes over its boiling point as it leaves
the cup.

Sadly, all we can do in my place of work is get the spaeking clock to
ring people up.

(Veritas):

But, I'm afraid I have to agree with you about Israel, nobody is going
to give up unless they are made to, and it will leave much bitterness
in it's wake.

(T Guy):

True. The men in the grey suits have to be dragged kicking and
screaming to the conference table. And those who get there that way
are not going to take a short time to thrash something out nor have an
easy time convincing those they represent.

Some chap who used to be, IIRR, the Israeli Ambassador to the U. N.
was on the TV the other year, saying 'Those who want peace on both
sides say the same thing: you and I want to make a peace deal and live
in peace, but the extremists on your side keep getting in the way.'

(Veritas):

But the Japanese, you have to remember that the
Philipines was a providence of ours, that was our territory at the
time.

(T Guy):

Yes, I daresay they had exactly the same beef with us, as Malaya and
Burma were colonies at the time.

Relating back to an issue elsethread: we spent three or four years
kicking the Japanes out of Malaya - then fifteen years fighting
Communist guerillas there.

(Veritas):

They just wanted to make sure we couldn't stop them from taking
oil from Southern Asia

(T Guy):

Was that before or after FDR cut off their oil supply from elsewhere?

Oil. That sounds vaguely familiar somehow, doesn't it?

(Veritas):

, and of course they didn't like our position on
them invading Korea and China as well.  They thought they could grab
control before we got our Navy back, and if the carriers hadn't been
at sea, they might have.

(T Guy):

I think they were counting on a quick war - similar position they took
with us, thinking that we were too busy fighting the might of the Nazi
war machine to get involved in a second war at the same time. They
underestimated our eagerness to get into every war possible (or our
supidity).

(Veritas):

I always wondered who the hell didn't bomb
the fuel tanks at Pearl.  I bet whoever was assigned that job got a
good kicking.  Regards as always, Ken Hogan

(T Guy):

Kicked, then sliced open, then kicked again would be my guess for that
little oversight...

I bet someone could write an entire books on Oversights of WWII.

Cheers

T Guy
