In James Morrow's City of Truth there was an AIDs like disease, which
the protagonists son got from getting bitten by a rabbit. I am not
sure whether that counts as "future" though.
The latest issue of Years best SF had a short story about a Kuru-like
disease that passed along in a religious ritual.
(Maybe it was Kuru?---The human equivalent of Mad cow?)
