Not to be morbid or anything, but I am currently reading David
Gerrold's "Chtorr" series, whose plot is predicated on an alien
assault on earth, partly in the form of artificial "plagues" that wipe
out a huge chunk of humanity. This got me to thinking, what are some
of the notable (not currently existing) future SF plagues or
diseases? I am reminded of a throwaway line in the "Chung Kuo"
series, where the author mentions that although HIV had been
eliminated a long time ago, other venereal diseases existed.

Do any memorable future plagues/diseases come to mind?

Stephen King's superflu "Captain Trips", Clive Cussler's "QD" ("Quick Death") are the first to come to my mind.
