I understand how someone might not be able to read Vinge, although I'm a
huge fan.   And I understand how someone might love to read Cherryh,
although I can't finish her books.

And I can't finish her fantasy, at least none of it so far, although I
like her SF quite a lot. And this is despite the fact that I like
fantasy, in general, about as much as SF. I understand how someone
might not like Vinge but I like him a great deal.

Of the popular SF authors who are also somewhat respected on this NG,
that is leaving out Piers Anthony and his ilk, I think Moor*** is one
I really don't like. I have never finished anything by Sterling.
Started one Bujold and never really got going, although I might find
out different if I tried more. I think Gibson is meh and Phillip K.
*** mostly unreadable but a couple of exceptions come to mind.

Michael Crichton sucks too.

I don't like some of Cherryh's fantasy, though I've read almost all of
her SF.

I've never tried reading a lot of Moor***, though I suspect that I
wouldn't care for that much of it.

I've had trouble reading Sterling, which bothers me, since I feel like
I should like him. I also don't care for that much of ***'s stuff.

Michael Crichton sucks as a SF writer, but his work is easy to
read, :)
