Known as "Sentient Snacks" (Transhuman Space: Deep Beyond
p.114). They're basically biological robots with mostly-biological
computers which can be loaded with a (small) infomorph of your
choice. There wasn't any mention of AIs which liked the experience of
being eaten, but there were several adventure hooks, including a
possibility of their use as a method of torture for infomorphs...
Similar items also appeared as "Pseudo-Sentient Snack Food" in Warren
Ellis' "Dirty Pair: Run From the Future".
