But that's not the Trekverse shown in the trailer.

Perhaps the clip on the web site isn't so much a trailer as an
extended "under construction" animation?

Having now viewed the trailer, I see no evidence at all that the
Enterprise is being built on the ground.

There's gravity -- but they can generate that.

There's air around them -- but they could be inside a very large
construction hull, or have a force field containing the air.

From the comments, I'd envisioned a flyover of the construction
site, with the ground around it clearly visible, but that's not the
case.

All well and good.

But then there's the interview with Robert Orci that contradicts your
sensible observations.

Idiot producer making stupid comments in interviews always trumps
intelligent fan-based ret-con. :P

NO! Intelligent fans trump idiotic producer comments! We have the power!

Sometimes the audience knows the art better than the artist.

That's the dirty ugly awful truth that many don't want to face but that is
often the case. Why? Because the audience knows what was shown while the
artist know what was MEANT and sometimes intentions do not quite make it
thru to the work in question.

That's why good writers have someone else edit their stories because writers
can sometimes read what's NOT on the page because they know what was meant
and not even realize some major errors in logic are present because they
failed to setup some event properly thus leaving the reader baffled.
Sometimes fresh eyes can see, if not more clearly, at least differently than
the original.
