My husband was quoting somebody on the Web this morning, saying
that the Republican primary is going to be like the Bataan Death
March.

Parenthetically, whenever anyone says "illegal aliens" I think of
E.T.

I typed a screenplay once (somebody knew E.T. was coming out and
wanted to ride the wave) where a couple of real aliens come to
the US; hijinks were supposed to ensue but it really wasn't very
funny* and he never sold it. There was a scene where our
far-traveled protagonists are driving through the southwestern US
and are stopped by the INS. They proudly state that they are
aliens. The INS guy demands to see their green cards. They hand
over a couple of baseball trading cards. "No, your GREEN card."
"Oh, sure." A wave of a hand and the cards turn green. The
aliens have managed to make themselves *look* humanoid -- they
just act weird -- so the INS agent gives up and waves them
through. As they drive off, he says to his buddy, "Funny, they
don't *look* Mexican."

*It was, I think, a means to come to terms with alcoholism -- not
his own, IIRC, but his parents'. That is something you can't do
and be funny at the same time.
