I've only read the first book in this series (1632) in which the
Grantvillers are first transported to historical Europe. My question
concerns the cover illustrations of the later books (1634 The Bavarian
Crisis and 1634 The Baltic War). The question is , why do the ships
and planes have both the Confederate States battle flages and United
States flags on them?

The US Flags are artistic license. The "CS Battle Flags" are not
actually CS Battle Flags. They are the Flags of the United States Of
Europe. If you can expand the image, you can see the difference.

The difference is mostly the colors: Germanic red/gold/black instead
of red/white/blue.

The "american" flag may be a representation of the Grantville/Thuringia
state flag, but the number of stars doesn't look right.
