If you want to see _real_ fun, head over to talk.origins where mere
creationists are being elbowed to the sidelines by Expanding Earth
crackpots.
They say that the Earth had, about 200 million years ago, half the radius
that it currently has. It expanded at an exponentially increasing rate (now
22-mm/year) and is still expanding.

Er, what? I guess I need to do some googling - this is one of the weirder
crackpot theories I've heard in a while. *

Isn't it, though? I mean, this sounds like something a person
got from misunderstanding a bad episode of 'He-Man' as a child. Where
does an idea like this even come from?

I miss the good old days of plausible theories like that three
hundred years of recorded history were crude forgeries.

I have a soft spot for this one, which appears to be a near-terminal
case of Tertiary Engineer's Syndrome:
http://www.thefinaltheory.com/
It tells us how the current understanding of gravity and, well,
everything is just all wrong. As far as I can tell, this is because if I
hang from a beam, my muscles expend energy to keep me up, therefore if I
hang a weight from a beam, something else must expend energy to keep the
weight up, and so the earth is expanding. Or something. Here's a
sample:

Q: How do heavy objects rest on a table without its molecules giving
way, collapsing the table?

A: Science has no viable explanation for this today. This mystery is
similar to the mystery of the fridge magnet. Atomic bonds are said to
result from electromagnetic energy attracting and holding atoms
together. Yet, there is no denying that tremendous ongoing energy
expenditure is required to hold the structure of a table together under
the weight of a heavy object. Where does this energy come from? How
quickly does this subatomic power source drain as it expends all this
energy? Today's science has no explanation for this everyday occurrence,
so such questions are never discussed.
