The latter sounds like The Black Stone by Robert E. Howard. I have it in a
collection of Howard's Cthulhu fanfiction which also features a story
called the Valley of the Worm which might fit and Conanesque would go
without saying. :-) (A random skim finds the words "...my race, blue-eyed,
yellow-haired, wanderers, slayers, lovers, mighty in rapine and
wayfaring.")
Ugh. I just googled it up online, and it's a nasty, nasty piece of
work. I mean, there's a nice enough adventure story there, but it has
a lot of trowelled-on stuff about how Of Course the tall blond people
are superior to the squatty swarthy folk. Translated into German, it
would have been a perfect bit of Hitler Youth entertainment.
