Yes, exactly so. Plus a little bit more: the sun was evidence that
there must be *some* way to store more energy per kilogram than any known
chemical fuels, eg, more dense than coal-plus-oxygen (or even
coal-and-get-the-oxygen-for-free), and similarly even with hydrogen and
oxygen.
