Hi,

this was probably the first Science Fiction novel I
ever read and I don't remember anything about it
(author, title etc.) besides some of the story.
It was probably a YA story and I read it in German.

The whole story is told from the viewpoint of a young
boy. He and his family are living in a farming
community and from time to time they see tall
three-legged monsters roaming around and hunting
people. The grown-ups all have a fine mesh on their
heads that controls their thoughts and doesn't let
then think bad thoughts about the monsters.

At some point the hero is caught in one of these
hunts and he finds out that these monsters are
actually machines. They have a crew of aliens that
are green (not very sure about that) and have three
legs. They live under big glass bubbles and the air
inside is unbreathable by humans. It is also very hot
and very humid. The boy is transported to one of
the cities and has to be a slave for one of
the aliens.

I don't remember much more. I think there is a
plot to change the atmosphere of the whole earth
to make it suitable to the aliens. At some point
the boy kills his master by punching him.I think at
the end there is a revolution and humans win.

Anybody has heard of this story? I would love to
find out more information about it.

Thank you,

Artemis
