I believe I understand this much: the government of the UK continues

Hmmm, I think you need to work on the concept of "support". The firm is
paid a wage, admittedly large, to conduct various ceremonial duties,
such as opening Parliament, greeting Heads of State, visiting the sick,
organising and running various charitable institutions, visiting
disaster areas, lending moral support and all that.
Has anyone calculated the royal family's hours? Do they put in
something like a forty-hour week? The job doesn't sound hard, and the
pay sounds great.
the Prime Minister acts before the Queen
in a way that would embarrass a Tom Paine American or a George Fox
Englishman,
No, and no. You really must update your understanding of the practices
of the Parliament if you wish to discuss it. *Once* upon a time your
statement may have made sense, but not for centuries.
So the scenes in "The Queen" of Blair following protocol were entirely
invented? I'd heard otherwise, but I realize it's dangerous to trust
movies about anything.
and the British people are required by law to give their
hereditary monarch money thanks to her Prime Minister's government,
No, they are required by law to pay taxes, just like you are supposed to
in your nation. The government, nominally expressing the will of the
people, pays some of this to the firm as wages (see above).
Do they actually talk about wages to the firm?
In our country, no one gets national money or work thanks to a lucky
birth.
but the arrangement seems to be a net win financially for her people.
Hooray!!! Finally, something seems to have gotten through!!!
Hey, I'm slow, but when I can't find evidence to the contrary, I
accept what's before me.
What I still don't get: If people want to have a queen, why don't they
want to be subjects?
Pardon? Where did that one come from?
People don't *care*.
Then why is anyone objecting to the word "subject"? James still brings
it up after something like a decade since we had this discussion. Do I
simply care too much about the meanings of words? (Which is very
possible. It's a writer's disease.)
Now, in your own case, the symbol of your nation is the Bald Eagle, a
carrion eater that can be scared away from a carcass by the sudden
appearance of a rabbit...
And sadly, W is making that symbol so very appropriate. I think your
prince who wants to go to Iraq is nuts, but at least he's trying to
act according to his principles, unlike the Bush girls, who follow
Daddy's example of letting others fight while they party.
