It's fun watching the terminology evolve. On the web, there are
addresses where you go to get information. Is it a site, a page, a
newsgroup, a blog, a builletin board, or something else? Effectively,
it's just an address with information. I wonder if all the longer
names for the kinds of things you can find through the net will fall
away in favor of the tersest.
The same way there will be one word for bicycles, motorcycles, cars,
and horses?
Could be. Once upon a time, almost everyone understand the differences
between jacks and jennies, mules and hinnies, stallions and mares and
geldings and colts and fillies-- We're pretty much down to "That's a
horse, and is that a donkey or a mule?" Motorcycles and bicycles are
both "bikes." A horse and a car can both be a "ride." I dunno that
we'll hit the point where we no longer distinguish between a machine
and a creature, but we might.
