being shocked at this added bit.

Yes, there was a war, between the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern
one, as well as a world-wide flood due to global warming. They arrest
the time traveller for the crime of time travelling (which was made
illegal, for reasons I don't recall) and inform him that his machine
will be destroyed. They also confirm that other time-travellers also
met the morlocks ands saw the end of time. Then one of the 22nd
century people tries to steal the machine, saying that he'd be
worshipped as a god with his abilities in the 19th century. A fist
fight ensues, and our hero escapes.
