The 50th San Francisco International Film Festival will honor
acclaimed Peter Morgan with this year's Kanbar Award for Excellence
in Screenwriting. Peter Morgan will appear for an extensive onstage
interview on Saturday, May 5 at 1 pm at the Sundance Cinemas Kabuki,
followed by a screening of his early film The Deal, directed by
Stephen Frears. The film features Michael Sheen as Tony Blair as he
jockeys for Labour Party position with Gordon Brown in 1994, prior
to Blair becoming prime minister. Morgan, Frears and Sheen also worked
together on this year's Academy Award Nominated The Queen. Morgan, of
course, also wrote The Last King of Scotland and, most recently, HBO's
Longford and the Broadway production of Frost/Nixon.
