Can you hear me now?

All right, this is probably the most common request on here, but I'd
like some help identifying a short story.
My search for this particular story is the result of some memories
stirred by the lyrics of a song-- I happened to catch the rock group
Shellac several times in concert, and was struck more than once by a
particular number. The narrator in the lyrics seems to be a deejay
broadcasting a program that he isn't sure anyone will here, with a
repeated refrain of "can you hear me now?" (this was before the
ubiquitous cell phone campaign). These lyrics spurred some intense
memories of a particular story about a deejay broadcasting from a
satellite in outer space after all humanity had been wiped out. This
would've been one from a long time ago... maybe 1950s or early 1960s
at the latest. I was an avid reader of science fiction when I was
young, but as a kid, never paid too much attention to titles or
authors. Still, I feel that this is probably not too obscure. Any
ideas?
