I'm trying to come up with SF stories that have no violence at all, and
I'm not having much luck. _Bellwether_ by Connie Willis, maybe?
Most Asimov stories have no violence. Off the top of my head "Not
Final", "The Singing Bell", "Franchise", "The Martian Way", "Reason",
_The Gods Themselves_, etc.
The Gods Themselves? Unless my memory is faulty didn't the human
protagonist's cosmeg power solution mean the death of the entire species
of 3-part being that morphed into one because they would no longer get
power from the human universe?
No, he didn't cut them off. The point of cosmeg power was to keep our
strong force constant, so our Sun didn't explode.. That required continued
traffic with both the para-universe and the cosmeg universe.
Come to think of it, the 3-part beings' solution was to have human
universe explode resulting in a long lasting power flow. Although
unsuccessful it was an attempt at the mega-extinction of a universe.
Just the Solar System, not the whole universe :-) That's pretty evil, but
since it doesn't occur, I think I'm within the rules to say "No violence in
the story".
