The Egyptian majority switched to the language of the Arab ruling
elite, and the Greek speakers of Asia Minor similarly switched to the
Turkish of their conquerors.

Very little of the currentlt Arab-speaking world originally spoke Arabic.
Certainly no one in North Africa.
