Short version: He has a disorder that if treated kills half
the people with it in less than four years. He has elected
to focus on the fact that half of the people with it live
_longer_ than four years.
Well, ***. I hope he's right, for I don't want to see any
fellow being's life cut prematurely short.
That's the truth. I've never actually read his work, but it's a crappy
deal, no matter who it happens to. The description of the treatment
would've been science fiction a couple of decades ago.
But I do hope he will take it as a subtle hint that he ought to
wind up that damned series.
He's definitely not going to be working any time soon, if stories from
my friends who've gone through chemo are any indication. Extreme
nausea and mega-exhaustion are par for the course for most people.
Plus with the immune system suppression, they'd have to boil his laptop
to sterilize it. That'll wreck its recall.
