I'm guessing this was discussed when it was first published. There's a map in the beginning of The Protector's War. But its hand drawn, and
I must say I was impressed with it. Surely it covers a similar geography as
ISOT and Draka-verses. The evil villains, the older techs. But he does it
well.
Although worth the purchase I found Conquistador marginally sub-par and
Peshawar Lancers not quite as good as that. From an unknown I would have
said they were decent but from Stirling I expected more.
DTF delivered for me. I would have liked him to focus more on the other
side of the hill: The Protector, but I guess that will be in the sequel.
A couple of point I wondered about.
-He seemed to assume a pretty much instantaneous disintegration of society
and a somewhat rapid new order arising. Fair enough. Who's to say that this
wouldn't occur. Plus he is only showing selected bits of the aftermath.
But I'm thinking that by sheer inertia people would look to the old social
forms and the current states would hang on a little longer than a few days.
Similarly I think a dark age would occur when the old order did collapse
that would last much longer.
-Bikes. I'm glad he mentioned them but one thing missing was maintenance.
They seemed to be maintenance free. Not would the irreplaceable stocks of
spare parts be worth a Protector's ransom but a good bicycle mechanic [a
'wrench' in bike-speak] would be a valued skill.
Oh, and one other suggestion. His books could really use maps to help
visualize the lay of the land.
I found it almost unreadable.
You can go to his web site and get some background detail on some of the sites
in the book.
