_Hard Landing_ by Algis Budrys. Some aliens get shipwrecked on earth.
I'd call it a naturalistic novel--life is difficult, but not dramatically
so.
_Childhood's End_ by Arthur C. Clarke. This one is remarkably low on
human-initiated action. I suppose you could call it a story of amazing
events.
