Well, in Expanded Universe, Heinlein seems to take Perl Harbor badly.
At least... I think that's where I read about it; the whole "trying
repeatedly to sign up for combat duty, and why" thing, more or less.
But yes, more abstractly, per elsethread, the "yellow menace" meme that
was so popular both pre WWII and some time thereafter. Arguably, Sixth
Column is mild, in that context.
Ah well. Perhaps it seems inconsistent of me to bemoan "The Quiet Man"
and "McLintock", but not "Sixth Column" or "Farnham's Freehold". But I
note that there is plenty in Heinlein I'm squicked by. It's just that,
given I'd read lots of other Heinlein before those, I was convinced his
point wasn't the one that could be lept to, so "race" isn't one of the
things he squicks me with. Well... other than refering to all humanity
as "the race", and evolutionary behavioralism, feh.
"Many man eat, but Fu Manchu."
