No, I think they did that right. They even show them spinning down and
turning chunks of wheel into the direction of thrust when they maneuvered
("Mission to Mars", I'm looking at you and laughing). I think they just
didn't show the rings upside down, because that would have been irritating.

(And what was the idiocy with having the engineer "manually" moving
bombs around? They couldn't adapt 150 year old tech from jukeboxes to
handle it?)

Considering that he's firing off 192 of them, they must have been mostly
automated. He did the first couple by hand for symbolic reasons, or because
he wanted to make sure everything was working right.

On the other hand, the trip is supposed to take 10 years, making it near
light speed (unless it's 10 years subjective, which due to time
dilation is only .866c). Any drive based on blowing up bombs isn't going to
get you to lightspeed in a few minutes, and if it could, it wouldn't matter
because you'd be paste on the wall. Points for referencing Orion, but a
little handwavium would have helped here.

I don't think it was a bad movie, but it wasn't a very GOOD one. *
