Correct. Two nitpicks.

1) There are two kinds of LCD TVs - flat panels and rear projection.
Flat panels use flourescent bulbs, rear projection sets never have.

2) There are several kinds of rear projection TVs - CRT-based (the
big old clunkers) which were discontinued years ago, Liquid Crystal on
Silicon (LCoS, the JVC D-ILA and Sony SXRD sets, also discontinued),
DLP and LCD-RP. These all used incandescent bulbs (which cost about
$100 to $150 if you know where to shop and have to be replace every
three or four years) until recently. A few DLP and LCD-RP sets
started using LED light sources but they could not initially match the
brightness of actual light bulbs. I'm told they've gotten better, but
it has been years since I was in the market for a TV.

So both flat-panel LCD and various kinds of RP (and front-projection)
TVs are in the process of swtiching from their different kinds of
blubs to LEDs.

I'm hoping that someone eventually invents a way to drop an LED light
source into old sets in place of the bulbs, but we'll have to see.

Joe
