Okay, you get a total pass from me the next
time we disagree about something. :-) You guys are amazingly brave, and I
have nothing but respect and admiration for what you do. When people throw
around the term 'hero' willy-nilly, I always think that firefighters (and
cops) are the ones who really deserve the moniker.

I appreciate the sentiment, truly, but... in that case... can we disagree on
the
term 'hero' then? Please? :-)

OK individual firefighters may do individually courageous things at some
points
but it's 99.99% *teamwork*. We're really not comfortable with this 'hero'
thing... <<

I mean "heroic" in the sense of you _choosing_ to walk into burning buildings
on a regular basis in order to save the lives of complete strangers. If
that's not heroic, I don't know what _is_.

It's bothered me the way the term has been co-opted of late to mean anyone
who is a victim of any really horrific tragedy. They're not; you are.

Having said all that, if you do want to see a hero you don't need to look
further than this guy:

'Some things can't be downsized' as the author says. I ran for him this year
(
http://www.corestore.org/ttt08.htm ) along with literally thousands of other
firefighters from all over the world. <<

Yeah, that guy certainly qualifies for the term. Makes you shiver just to
read about it. But see, that's what I mean about you guys: you _choose_ to
walk headlong into danger. _All_ of you.

(just for entertainment, this was the first of the three fires:

So...you moved here to the US...and became a firefighter? That must be some
really interesting story.
