Sure, we get more Babylon 5 in a week.

Amazon.ca shows my expected delivery date as "August 3 - August 8". Woot woot!

These are very exciting times, and Babylon 5 is leading the way again
to revolutioninze the way we see media. I honestly think that
television and "the movies" are pretty dead as formats. No one wants
to watch commercials anymore, and no one goes to see movies.

I must beg to differ there. Until I can put a 60-foot-wide screen and full THX/DTS sound system in my basement, "going to the movies" will still hold the advantage of completely wrapping yourself in the experience.

For your average chick flick or dramady, this may not be such a big deal... for the big-action blockbusters, there's simply no equal. Yeah, I'll be buying Transformers and Live Free Or Die Hard when they come out on DVD too, but I still have to see each of them AT LEAST a second time on the *BIG* SCREEN.

I think that DVD/webisodes are the future way of doing things,

Ugh. Webisodes still have one major problem to overcome: thick-headed suits who feel it necessary to control access to the content based on geographical borders. I'm told, for example, that there's a lot of additional back-story and filler information available for Jericho on webisodes; that's nice, but they won't let anyone outside the US view them. Yeah, I can easily hack around that, but that's not the point: for your average shmoe sitting at home, they're simply not available. It's particularly frustrating because the webisodes are often advertised right along with (or directly after) the broadcasts, even in areas where they're not available.

Of course, the Suits generally don't see anything beyond simple demographics, and when an "outside" market - Canada in this case - comprises barely 10% of your audience, without the potential advertising revenue... well, who cares about them? (The final irony, if course, is that this even happens with US-based shows, produced and shot IN Canada!)

If the "webisode" idea is to have ANY usefulness or relevance outside the USofA, some forward-thinking suits will HAVE to pull their heads out of this particular little sand pile.

Hopefully there'll be DVDs availible in stores too..I'm going to
hawaii the first...so I don't want to order on amazon and not have it
show up the 31st. It'll be good to watch over and over on the
plane :)

And have people watching over your shoulder? ;)
