So, it looks like I'm shipping out to Basic Training with the Air Force
in a few weeks, and I am planning to leave my computer with my little
brother and buy a new one when I finish Basic. The problem is, I have
about 200 gigabytes of assorted crap I want to take with me, and so I'm
looking for some reliable (preferably affordable) method of taking that
stuff off of my computer, packing it in a box with some other assorted
essentials I'll want to have near me when I finish Basic, and mailing it
to wherever I am for my tech school.

Pretty much the only things I can think of are burning everything to a
DVD (a bit of an unwieldy solution, though I'll probably do just that
for the really important stuff as opposed to the stuff I just kinda want
to keep), and buying an external hard drive (or an internal drive with a
solid enclosure), but I've been warned that many hard drives do not do
well in the mail.

So, since Data Crystals capable of storing a planet's entire collection
of art, music, and literature won't be along for a couple hundred years,
any suggestions?

Oh, and of course, in order to appease the mods: *places some chocolate
bars on top of his question*

Get yourself an external (USB or Firewire) HD (they're quite cheap,
anymore...) and put everything on it. Just disconnect it, then, and
take it with you or ship it.
