So my sense is that we're much where we were with respect to FCV's
that light bulb researchers were back in the days when they were
looking for alternatives to platinum filaments and about to discover
carbonized thread. Which is to say somewhere between good and great. I
can't prove it, of course, but I've found that this sort of assessment
has worked pretty well in the past.

Ok, Josh,
So, you think that there will be a good reduction in cost and increase
in availability in HFCs, and that the storage problem will be solved.
On this we will disagree, but then, neither of us are working in that
area, so what do we know! 8-) I suspect that the solution will go in
another direction entirely, either to electrics or biofuels. I also
suspect that it will be new players in both fields that get the ball
really rolling, and then GM and the others will jump on the bandwagon.
I don't think government or big industries massive programs will
actually work. It will be grassroots folks actually doing the job that
will get us through the transition...

And interesting analogies on the A/V industry. I was in some of those
sessions as well as the proposals for ATSC was coming about.

That makes the second person I've come across on Usenet who was
involved in the ATSC . . .
