Heheh, thanks for all that, Chris. As I've noted before, one thing I've always liked about SG-1 is that the show doesn't take itself TOO seriously... even the characters (particularly Carter) at times address continuity errors directly - as you say, with "yeah, well, our assumptions we made, they were wrong, oops, we don't know everything!". Which makes our "heroes" all the more human, and thus more interesting to watch, IMHO.
And again I'll reiterate: the continuity between the original film and the series, and within all 9(!!) years of the series, has held together remarkably well - far better than that of the Trek universe, and certainly no worse than that of the B5 universe (which is all the more remarkable when you consider the pre-planning JMS put into his universe right from the start!)
