Despite what other people in other countries may think about the U.S.,
there is still a high coolness factor attached to U.S. popular culture.
When Enya became popular here, it certainly created an increased interest
in Gaelic culture here, and it wouldn't surprise me if that then spread
back across the pond. Mind you, I'm just vaguely speculating; I don't
know when the resurgence you're speaking of took place, or really if
there's any connection.

I don't blame Eithne at all for transliterating her name in order to
penetrate the U.S. market. I very much doubt she would have, using the
Gaelic spelling. I'm glad she did; I like her music a lot.

"The Democrats seem to be basically nicer people, but they have
demonstrated time and again that they have the management skills of
celery. They're the kind of people who'd stop to help you change a flat,
but would somehow manage to set your car on fire. I would be reluctant to
entrust them with a Cuisinart, let alone the economy. The Republicans, on
the other hand, would know how to fix your tire, but they wouldn't bother
to stop because they'd want to be on time for Ugly Pants Night at the
country club."
