Shortish version of The Famous B5 Joke Script Story(tm):

Sometime during the run of the show a bunch of the actors and JMS were at a
con. Peter and Andreas were on stage and Joe was up next. He was obviously
out of earshot, though, because Peter and Andreas asked the audience to _not
react_ when Joe came on stage. To not applaud, not laugh, not give him
_anything_. So Andreas and Peter finished up, JMS comes onstage, this
audience has been wildly screaming for all B5 personage all weekend long, JMS
gets to the mic and says "Hi, I'm Joe Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5!"
Which is greeted by...total silence. Nothing.

Joe is of course aghast. Nothing he says evokes _any_ reaction. Then he
notices Peter and Andreas in the back of the room, laughing themselves sick.
Joe's a smart guy, ya know, so he very quickly figures out what they did.

Someone else will have to fill you in on what he said exactly, but I think he
called them out on the prank and ended with a menacing, "Never, _ever_ f&*#
with the writer." He promised to exact revenge on them...some day.

Personally, I would have left the country! :-)

Okay, so some months go by, and they're now filming late season 4, including
"The Exercise of Vital Powers." Scripts go out to the cast. Including a
script that cuts out the b-story of G'Kar getting the prosthetic eye fitted,
which is what we ultimately saw on screen. In place of that b-story is
another one: one in which G'Kar has decided to do something radical to be a
bridge between the Narn and the Centauri. He undergoes a sex change and
becomes a _female_ Narn. The script includes scenes between Londo and G'Kar
which are just indescribable, and really _should_ have been filmed. We have
Londo seeing G'Kar for the first time and saying, "G'Kar, you've...changed,"
and an afterglow scene that's just...awful. Really, really awful. I cannot
stress this enough.

The way Andreas and Peter tell it, they both knew right away that it was a
joke, and it was Joe's revenge for the con stunt (and they both claim they
were each the _only_ one who knew it was a joke <g>). But apparently much of
the rest of the cast and crew were, well, punk'd by Joe's script. See, he's
thorough: he not only sent out scripts like that - he sent out prop and
costume and design notes referring to the fake scenes. Apparently costuming
tried to set up a fitting for Andreas to work on his new breasts.

One of the actresses (rumor has it it's Mira) was devastated by this, to the
point of tears. Crying to the other actors that this was "horrible,
terrible stuff," and that Joe had obviously been working too hard, and they
had to go to him and beg him not to do this...

I've heard both Andreas and Peter say that the worst part of it was that it
was never filmed. Although they did do a staged reading of it at some con in
the past.

So, Joe got his revenge, well and good. And remember: never, _ever_ piss off
the writer!
