So? My dog considers himself human, but that doesn't mean it's true.

I doubt very much that your dog considers himself to being human. I
doubt that he has a feeling of self at all.

I'd argue that point based on his behavior and obvious sense of
entitlement...but that's a digression. The central question is, why should
a computer with human memories be treated as a human? It's not human,
not subject to human limitations, and I for one would not consider it a
continuation of the human race.

Human beings might spawn a new race to explore the stars, and some of
those beings may carry human memories, but that is not human exploration.
