Galactic Gravitation...

The Galaxy as a whole obviously has its own gravity field, made up of the gravity fields of all the components thereof (just as the Earth's gravity is the sum of gravity of all the rocks, water, metal, etc., which make it up).
What is it like? If I could ignore my local gravity generators and just feel the galactic gravity, how strong is it here and elsewhere? If you're along the galactic plane/equator, I presume you'd "feel" it as pulling straight towards galactic center , but if you were off the equator there'd be some component pulling you towards that plane, yes?
