They plan to do tests that involve different bands of electromagnetic
radiation. You'll have to wait for the results.

We're talking about the same melanin that causes our skin to tan when
exposed to UV. I guess it's possible that the fungi use the same
reaction but are able to extract energy from the reaction rather than
just changing the pigmentation.
