I seem to recall one of the Star Tek novels had an alien who was "given
away" by the fact that he ate his potatoes, meat, and vegetables in

the author was apparently familiar with.
Wait a minute... Detective Monk does exactly this... but, also his other
behaviour clearly indicates he IS an alien :-)
