GW: the 'hockey stick' unbent

Since global warming is a frequent topic here (and elsewhere), this
paper will be of interest:
http://www.climatechangeissues.com/files/PDF/conf05mckitrick.pdf

This is a clear and devastating analysis of the famous "hockey-stick"
paper, which purports to demonstrate that the Earth's climate has warmed
drastically in the late 20th century. McKitrick demonstrates that the
'hockey-stick' is a mathematical artifact of a bent principal-component
analysis. Worse, the original author was well-aware of this problem.
Worse still, the IPCC report uncritically accepted the 'hockey-stick',
and used it to recommend some very expensive social-engineering.

One may speculate on the motives of these folks, but the underlying
science simply doesn't support the IPCC conclusions. Easy, and
depressing, reading.

More analyses of political climate science available at
http://www.climateaudit.org/ , an impressive independent-research effort.
Comments on this paper are at http://www.climateaudit.org/index.php?p=166
And comments on the truly disgusting SciAm puff piece on the
hockey-stick is at http://www.climateaudit.org/index.php?p=95
Just as bad as the shameful SciAm treatment of Bjorn Lomborg.

Happy(?) reading--
