No, the missing energy was inferred from knowing how much energy went in and
how much came out.




This is, of course, just like
dark matter, which would be created by the missing energy which is needed

You didn't think that through, did you? You're bootstrapping. Without dark
matter there's no anomalous energy to create dark matter in the first place.

Except that we could see that energy was disappearing. Dark matter claims
that 90% of the universe is missing, yet we do not see any physical process
missing in our experiments.

But it's general relativity that is the problem here, not special

Because it is that way the matter we can observe behaves and the way our
theories of gravity predict.

You can't have it both ways. Either the theory of gravity is correct, in
which case dark matter doesn't work, or it is wrong and dark matter has no
place.
