I distinctly remember reading in more than one place that the Moon
was expected to reverse course and start _approaching_ Earth far in the
future, after it recedes to some maximum distance and Earth and Moon
both become tidally locked to the other. I've searched for more info
today, and the only thing I've found is
http://www.uwgb.edu/dutchs/planets/resonanc.htm which does confirm my
recollection though only in a very brief mention. Go about a third of
the way down the page to the section "Long-Term Effects."
And thanks for mentioning the Ward and Brownlee book, which I
have put on my "to be read" list.
