: I'm not sure where you injected "pastwards" into this, since it isn't
: a part of any tachyon behavior that we've discussed.
I think I mentioned it elsethread. Of course, one can,
feynmandiagramlike, decide that any given trajectory between source
and destination in any given frame is futureward; it's just that folks
will disagree about which end of the trajectory emitted the particle.
For STL particles, everybody will agree which end of the trajectory is
earlier than the other; for FTL, this is no longer unanimous.
:: What is the Cherenkov radiation of a pastwards travelling charge like,
:: classically?
: Particles don't travel "pastwards" classically, so it's unclear what
: you're asking for here.
I think the issue is, do the classical equations give a frame-dependent
answer to exactly what radiation is emitted and in what direction.
For Cherenkov radiation in matter, this isn't a problem, because the
prefered frame is set by the physical medium the particle is moving through;
for FTL-in-vacuum, the ambiguity remains.
Um. I think.
