Re: MT VOID, 11/20/09 -- Vol. 28, No. 21, Whole Number 1572

( "Keith F. Lynch" <k...@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> ):

2 ? 2 = 4 works not just for addition, multipication, and
exponentiation, but for *all* of the infinitely many operations that
follow in the series that begins with addition and continues with
multiplication, exponentiation, and tetration.

(T Guy):

Having looked up 'tetration' on Wikipedia, it sunk into my mind to the
point that it occurred to me to find out what happens to the number 1
through this series.

1+1 = 2
1x1 = 1
1^1 = 1
1 tetrated 1 = 1

Because one would write '1 tetrated 1' as '1' to begin with.

A further thought which occurred to me was that the world of
mathematics might be made easier if '1' was not considered to be a
number.
