Why should flash drive connectors be any more vulnerable than disk
drive connectors?
I don't know exactly what he means, but consider this - if the male
connector on the thumb drive breaks, the whole thing is shot. If the
corresponding male connectors for your external disk break, you simply
buy a new cord.
That's if the connectors on the _cord_ break. The cord connects to
the box containing the drive; if the box's connectors break, a new
cord doesn't help. (But the box is typically a lot cheaper than the
drive, so you can replace the box. If the connectors on the drive
itself break, you're SOL, but that's unlikely because they're
protected inside the box.)
I like having a thumb drive that fits on my key ring
Is it worth paying three and a half times as much money for a lower
capacity device?
It's worth paying more for a smaller, easier-to-carry device. For an
external disk drive, I have to think about whether it's worth
carrying. A thumb drive is too small to notice, living on a key ring.
