Yes, which is very seldom used. Normally, the only thing a Metro
train driver does all day is announce each station, and look out the
window of his climate-controlled driver's booth to make sure nobody is
caught in the doors when he pushes the doors-closed button. Oh yes,
he's also responsible for telling headquarters if the train is broken.
But it's true that on rare occasion, he may be called upon to use
the accelerator and brakes to drive the train manually. There is of
course no steering control. So this is simpler than riding a bike,
never mind driving a car, truck, or bus.
For this safe, easy, stress-free unskilled job he will earn more than
the vast majority of highly skilled private-sector employees. Plus
he gets excellent benefits, including full medical, and is paid for
any overtime.
