I think people who choose to live in such places are either very

I don't know about Scotland, but here in Virginia the trunks
(ObUK: boots) of parked cars get very hot in the summer.
Placing groceries in such a trunk would ruin many of them.
No it doesn't.
I left a banana in the front seat of a car while it was parked in
the sun for a half hour. When I got back to the car, the banana
had turned black and liquefied. I doubt the trunk was any cooler.
And that's fresh fruit. Frozen food would fare even worse.
