It's called RSS -- you use a program, a browser add-on, or a web-app
to keep track of updates, and it displays only the ones you haven't
read.

Is that compatible with Lynx and a shell account, or will it pull
a "Facebook"?

(Facebook still says:

You are using an incompatible web browser.

Sorry, we're not cool enough to support your browser. Please keep
it real with one of the following browsers:

I check it once a month or so to see if they've gotten around to
fixing it.)

How is it presented? Are the updates emailed to you or something?
How does it deal with LJ comments? Does each new comment become
separate message or page or whatever?

It would be nice if it was presented in the form of a newsgroup. With
a good newsreader, I can read everything in one sitting, or read some
things now and the rest later, or blacklist subjects or senders I
dislike, or skip everything except subjects or senders I like, or skip
everything except messages containing certain key words or phrases.
It would be nice to be able to do the same with LJ, Blogspot, etc.

There are some senders here on Usenet whom I "stalk" through all
the newsgroups. Is there any way to view all LJ (or Blogspot, or
whatever) messages from a particular sender, even when they are
comments in other people's LJs and blogs?
